with 2 comments

A conversation with a Verizon representative about Verizon’s FIOS availability in Collegeville/Royersford/Limerick/Sanatoga/Pottstown confirmed that the service will be available by 2010. In the meantime, Verizon and Comcast are offering bundled services including phone/internet/tv for around $99/month and DirceTV offers standalone tv service at $30-60/month.

  1. Actually, FIOS Internet and TV are available in much of Montgormery county already. In addition, FIOS TV will be available to a large area including Collegeville, Trappe, Royersford, parts of Upper Providence, etc by the end of this year.

  2. Question is, when will it be available in NE Philadelphia, and other parts of the city?I’m guessing sometime in 2015.

At that time Dish Network and Directv will be one company offering over 500 1080P HD channels and 150000 VOD titles.

Comcast will finally be offering 150 HD-Lite channels while bragging about their 800,000 HD On-Demand “choices”, as if they were true full time channels. With most of these “choices” consisting of only 3 minute clips.Comcast will also be offering 60/20 HSI service, with with the usual few days of “downtime” each month .Also they will still have the same “250 Gb cap” in place, while implementing their “advanced network optimization” software, which most people will still be calling bandwidth throttling.

Elsewhere, Verizon will be developing some more advanced fiber technology that will be offered to only a “select” group of people while advertising it on 1000 local networks 500 times a day. Most of us will not actually see this service until 2050.

As the circle of technology life continues.
