Royersford site remediation complete

leave a comment »

After $1.5 million and several moths of cleanup, PECO has completed the remediation of a site that is the future home of the Royersford Condominiums and a borough park. The site, located along the Schuylkill River on First Avenue and adjacent to Main Street, was once a facility that manufactured gas over a century ago and the soil was found to be contaminated with hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Over 12,000 tons of contaminated soil was removed from the site, but the borough will still be required to enter into a covenant saying that it will never use the groundwater on the land.
